So she needs a new ride. Thoughts and recommendations? She's just out of high school and might be an hour and a half away from home, so it must be reliable, as I don't want to be going to pick her up.

Now she doesn't really care what she gets to drive. But I sure as hell do. I'm thinking a sedan in decent shape, high-ish miles (price restricted). I'm a big fan of GM's Series II 3.8L. I'd also be completely okay if she had an early 2000s Taurus. Price range is right around $2k.

As a thank you:

You can pick up a fairly nice Acura Legend sedan, 1993-ish, around here (Atlanta) for around $2,300 with approx. 200,000 miles on it. Also you can find late '90's Honda Accords and Nissan Altimas in that price range too.

Classy. Very nice. It's a TANK, relieable, and "fancy".

Hilarious review...

Ha, and none of the fuel efficiency. Great input tho, I'll just have to find one...

Aaah late 90s foreign cars. Now those run forever. An Accord would do well.

I'd honestly prefer anything she gets to be a boat/tank/impenetrable safety-wise.

A early '90's Mercury Marquis or Ford Crown Vic, in super nice shape, can be had for $1800, with reasonable miles on it. I'd get a civilian model owned by someone of an age where they tend to be more gentle with cars (senior citizens).

We just picked up a mid/high mile '04 Grand Prix for real cheap. $2000 but it needed about $1000 worth of stuff. Did the LIM gaskets first and had to fight with the OEM spark plugs coming out, but after that and changing all fluids, brake pads and rotors, it runs like a top! OE spark plugs had 184,000 miles on them... one broke off at the base when coming out.

Now it's running fantastic though. If she liked the Bonneville and you like the 3800, it's a decent car if you can find one clean.

That'd be awesome. jkm7680 suggested the same thing.

Nevermind. I just checked their prices. I had no idea they were still going for $5,000+.

Yeah, it's a little ridiculous how a car nobody likes holds it's value.
